    Statement of Work

Last winter I began experimenting with new mediums for my art series. After countless failed attempts, I finally connected with a concept featuring a complimentary pairing of linear paint with monochromatic photography. The hand-painted stripes of colour are designed to serve as an abstract expression of my personal interpretation and intention behind the Image. We named it the Libra Series, celebrating a dynamic and aesthetically pleasing balance of the Editions it renders. My first Libra Edition was this: two Wabi-sabi (perfectly-imperfect) vertical blue stripes spanning infinitely beyond the boundaries of the sky and the @oneworldnyc tower which proudly stands 1,776 feet above New York City.

I visited the 911 Memorial for the first time in 2016. It is an experience that left a deep scar and altered the way I approach the remainder of my life, both as a human and a proud American citizen. One of the Museum’s most recognizable installations is a piece by artist, Spencer Finch, titled “Trying to Remember the Color of the Sky on That September Morning.” This piece is comprised of 2,983 individual watercolor squares - each representing a victim of the 2001 and 1993 attacks - and symbolizes the idea of memory. In paying homage to this concept, I utilized over 20 specific shades of blue paint to create the stripes in my Edition.

I was in 6th grade, one month from turning 12, on the morning of Tuesday, September 11th, 2001. I often reflect on 9/11 as a day marking the end of my innocent childhood and the beginning of life in a new, very different world. I am still today tremendously inspired by the heroic and selfless acts of the first responders and heroes of 9/11 and will forever do my part to ensure their stories, legacies and memories remain eternally prevalent in the heart of our great nation.
