    Statement of Work

New York before and after 9/11 was my most emotional photo work

    Resume

Since 25 years I work for a big German Art Calendar in Black and White about New York City.  I photographed new images for this calendar in July 2001. Til all was developed and printed, it was September 10th 2001. Exactly on this Monday I overlooked all my prints and came to the conclusion: by fault I have photographed too many images of the WTC. Next day when the attack happened, I was emotionally touched like never in my live by an event before. I decided immidiately to go back to New York and photograph Downtown without the Twin Towers from exactly the same positions like my photos from July. I entered into a completely different New York and everybody told me his story what had happened to him during 9/11. It was very difficult to find the exactly same positions. Many locations were locked and I had to convince the authorities about my project, at last I succeeded. My comparison was published in many magazines in the hole world. We made a book out of it, called "New York, New York" in Kunstverlag Weingarten which was sold in Germany and the USA. My photo couples where exhibited in different galleries and museums in Germany. When the new One World Trade Center was ready, I came again to New York and photographed my third picture from the same positions. Now there a triptychs about this part of New York history and I am glad to show this in this gallery.
